FAQs

  • So is this a humor blog, or a blog about a ranch?
    • Well, it’s both. You won’t find any posts about politics, Hollywood gossip, or reality TV shows here, that’s for sure. We stick to the ranch, and we’ll try our darndest to keep it entertaining. I don’t know about you, but I have enough ‘reality’ in my life, thank you very much, but I can never get enough humor.

  • What could possibly be funny about a ranch?
    • I come from a long line of story-tellers. I have great memories of sitting around the dinner table at Grandma’s house listening to hours and hours of stories told by Grandpa, my uncles, and my Dad. It’s an art, really – the funny story. Each time the same story is told it is honed and tuned, each time the listeners laugh the teller makes a mental note of the success, and so the story evolves into a performance that gets better and better with each rendition. Nowadays the story-telling happens around Mom’s dinner table, and when the family gathers for holidays and the stories start rolling, we laugh until our sides ache and the iced tea melts in its pitcher on the table. The best stories are those told in several voices, like when Dad will start a tale, only to be interrupted by his brother saying, “I can tell I’m going to have to take this one over, ‘cause you’re going to mess it all up.” You’d be surprised what can be funny on the ranch, and this blog is our attempt to share and preserve some of that humor and story-telling.

  • So why start a blog?
    • My love of story-telling (and my not-infrequent practicing on my friends and co-workers) was a big factor. Also, I noticed how much Mr. HH and his buddies loved reading humor articles in magazines, like Field and Stream® and Outdoor Life®, and I thought, Those stories are no better than the ones we tell at the dinner table! Heck, we can do that!

  • How often do you put up a new post?
    • We started out trying one new post per week. But it was so much fun, and we had so many ideas, that now we are posting twice a week. If that goes well, who knows? We try for Sundays and Wednesdays.

  • I don’t want to miss a post! How can I be notified when there is new material to read?
    • You can subscribe to our RSS feed, but if you have no idea what an RSS feed is, you can always join our FaceBook® Fan page. We’ll share a new link there to each new post, and it will show up in your Facebook® feed. Or just bookmark us and check back a couple times a week, that’ll work too. If you’re new to us, be sure and spend some time in the archives, there’s some great stuff in there.

  • Why don’t you use your real names?
    • I guess it gives us a sense of privacy. But also, I think it helps the stories to read less like ESSAYS, and more like STORIES with CHARACTERS. Because really, we’re all a bunch of characters once you get to know us.
